First comes the website. Then, of course, you need to get people to come there and do stuff. Maybe it's to buy something. Maybe it's to learn something. Maybe it's to participate in a community or support a cause. No matter what the site is about, the critical part is actually getting them there. Unfortunately, this is the point where most website owners get stuck. Where and how do you find traffic or visitors for your site? 

Let's take a look at your options: There are basically two types of traffic: free and paid. Both will bring visitors to your website when done correctly, but there is an inherent cost to each. One costs money. The other costs time. If you've got the time, free is the way to go. One of the most basic things you can do to increase traffic to your site or blog is to post content consistently. Whenever you publish a new post or article it will be found by search engine spiders, and it will become indexed by Google, Yahoo, Bing, and the other sites out there which catalog the web's content. 

This ranking will help your site get indexed quickly. What this basically means is that each time someone types in a search query in Google, your site is more likely to show up in the rankings. Higher rankings results in more visitors to your website, which of course is what you want, right? Creating a basic content creation or blogging calendar can help you stay on track and get those posts published regularly. Always write posts that are informative and helpful to your readers, this way they will return to read more at a later date. The alternative, and something that's been taught for a long time is to write for the search engines. 

Don't go there. If your content is consistent, focussed on a narrow range of topics, and reads naturally, you'll be in great shape. As for a schedule, try to post two to three times a week. Pick a schedule that you can stick to without overwhelming yourself. This way anyone interested in your comment can visit your blog. - Use videos to raise awareness, answer common questions, and provide information. Videos are huge, and people tend to share them with their friends. Your videos don't have to be that long. Two or three minutes is long enough. 

You can even record yourself reading a blog post if you want. Great content is great content. - And, of course be sure to share links to your blog on appropriate social media channels. Plus, be sure to share those posts with others as well. The more layers of shared content, the more search engine love and new opportunities to be discovered.
